Rumors, misinformation, and disinformation about nutrition
The population's awareness of the association between food/nutrition and chronic diseases has increased public interest in information regarding food and nutrition. An entity, with adequate knowledge and competence is therefore needed to feed the people with correct information in nutrition and prevent the spread of such misinformation. The lack of such an entity/organization leads to the spread of rumors, misinformation, and disinformation about nutrition that may put patients and consumers at risk. Rumors, misinformation, and disinformation are difficult to correct, especially in a population that is interested in and trusts the media wholeheartedly. Hence, information about nutrition, like the information about drugs, should be given by a trustworthy organization with adequate knowledge in the field.
